How we create a luxurious classic inkwell by hand

The luxury classic inkwell for smartphones, pens, and fountain pens is our original concept, a contemporary and modern take on the inkwell, where a specially designed smartphone stand replaces the ink container. This modern inkwell was entirely designed and handcrafted at Kostylo Atelier.

We would like to show you, step by step, how we manually created this luxurious and stylish inkwell. None of the elements were made outside of our workshop; we do not use imported parts from China but instead rely on our skills, rooted in goldsmithing knowledge.

All of our works are created out of love for art, for high quality, and for people who, like us, adore beautiful luxury objects.

Here you can see in all its glory the classic luxury office inkwell authored Kostylo atelier.

The models designed by our atelier were cast in brass at Kostylo Atelier. In this image, you can see the brass side elements of the inkwell. Stylish and classic legs with special bevels have also been cast.

The next image shows a brass sheet cut to size, forming the base of the inkwell.

The precisely hand-sanded and smoothed sides are meticulously aligned with the base and legs, so that in the next stage, all these details can be silver soldered into one piece.

The previously cut brass sides for the pen or pencil holder are also precisely soldered with high-quality silver, creating a single container for pens and fountain pens for the inkwell.

The silver-soldered side walls form the container for the fountain pens in the inkwell. The next stage will be hand-filing, manual smoothing with sandpaper, copper-plating, and polishing to a high gloss, followed by gilding with 23-carat light Italian gold.

Similarly, we create the smartphone stand, where the precisely cut brass sheet is silver soldered under high temperature, with all the details hand-filed, smoothed with sandpaper to near shine, then copper-plated and gilded with Italian gold.

We also prepare the base for the luxury inkwell, using a rare and specially selected semiprecious stone known as striped flint. We carefully select each piece of striped flint for our works, ensuring it has no cracks and choosing the most beautiful pattern of each stone. Striped flint is found only in Poland; no other place in the world, in terms of geological structure, contains such a beautiful and rare striped flint. It is rightly said that this semiprecious stone, with a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, is rarer than diamond.

Meanwhile, we also create a luxurious wooden box for the classic luxury inkwell, painted in Kostylo atelier’s signature dark green, and we handcraft custom luxury hinges and clasps, gilded with light Italian gold. The box is lined with white luxury satin.

The overall effect is stunning.
