Belt with Striped Flint Buckle
Hand-formed brass and natural black leather
This belt is built around a sculptural buckle that combines hand‑worked brass with a selected fragment of striped flint. The buckle is shaped entirely by hand and finished with 23‑carat Italian gold. Its outline follows a restrained classical geometry, allowing the stone to define the visual center of the composition.
The striped flint plate introduces a geological structure that contrasts with the polished metal. Each fragment of this mineral carries a unique rhythm of bands, making every buckle a singular object. Selecting the stone required careful comparison of scale, orientation and pattern to maintain balance within the form.
The metalwork follows techniques rooted in 19th‑century goldsmithing. Edges, transitions and soldered joints were refined through repeated cycles of shaping and finishing in the Kostylo Atelier in Warsaw. The gilded surface creates a reflective plane that emphasizes the mass and clarity of the buckle.
The belt is completed with a strap made from selected natural black leather with a matte sheen. Its simplicity allows the buckle to remain the focal point while maintaining a balanced silhouette. The overall composition references early Coco Chanel aesthetics, interpreted here through manual craft and material discipline.
This piece belongs to a series in which functional accessories are approached as sculptural studies. The belt examines proportion, material contrast and the meeting point between classical craft and contemporary fashion.
