A sculptural box with hand-chiselled Arabian horse head handles

This sculptural box centers around two hand-chiselled Arabian horse heads that function as structural handles for lifting the lid. Their elongated profiles, carved with disciplined precision, introduce a sense of alertness and movement. Each head was shaped from raw metal, refined through repeated cycles of chiselling and filing, allowing the characteristic Arabian silhouette to emerge gradually from the material.

The body of the box is gilded, while the horse heads are silver‑plated, creating a deliberate contrast between surface tones. This contrast is not decorative – it establishes a hierarchy within the object, where the sculpted figures act as both functional elements and focal points. Their presence defines the orientation of the box and anchors the composition.

The interior is lined with carefully selected ecru leather, chosen for its softness and subtle grain. The hand-stitched, gold‑gilded tufting introduces a quiet rhythm inside the piece, echoing the discipline of the exterior metalwork. This inner structure is not an afterthought; it is part of the object’s sculptural identity, extending the language of craftsmanship into the hidden spaces.

As with all works from my atelier, the box is housed in a custom dark-green wooden case with hand‑gilded hinges and clasps. This outer container is not packaging – it is an extension of the work, designed to protect and frame the object with the same level of intention.

This piece belongs to a series in which functional formats become carriers for sculptural investigation. The Arabian horse heads, shaped entirely by hand, embody the intersection of gesture, anatomy and material discipline that defines my approach to small‑scale sculptural objects.
