Belt Buckle with Striped Flint
Hand-cut 3 mm brass, silver‑soldered and gold-plated
This buckle is constructed from 3‑millimeter brass sheet, cut and shaped entirely by hand. The form follows a restrained geometry that allows the stone to define the visual center of the composition. All joints were silver‑soldered and refined through repeated cycles of filing and finishing before the surface was plated with Italian 23-carat gold.
A selected plate of striped flint forms the core of the buckle. Its layered mineral structure introduces a geological rhythm that contrasts with the polished metal. Each fragment of this stone carries a different pattern, making every buckle a singular object. The orientation and scale of the bands were matched to the proportions of the brass frame to maintain balance within the form.
The strap is made from selected natural black leather with a matte sheen. Its simplicity allows the buckle to remain the primary element while keeping the silhouette clear and architectural.
The buckle is housed in a custom dark‑green wooden case designed specifically for this piece. The hinges and clasps, shaped and gilded by hand, are integrated into the design rather than added as accessories. The interior is lined with satin to protect both the gilded surfaces and the stone inlay.
This piece belongs to a series in which functional accessories are approached as sculptural studies. The buckle examines proportion, material contrast and the meeting point between classical craft and contemporary fashion.
