Gold-Plated Sculptural Box “Polar Bear”
Handcrafted sculptural and goldsmithing object
This sculptural box in the form of a walking polar bear is an original work created in the Kostylo Atelier. Designed as a solid, architectural object with a figural lid, it combines traditional goldsmithing techniques with a sculptural approach to metal.
The bear, captured in dynamic motion on an icy base, was shaped and refined entirely by hand. Its surface is plated with 23-karat gold, giving the form a luminous, ceremonial presence. The figural element also serves as a sculptural handle for the lid, creating a natural gesture of opening that emerges directly from the composition of the object.
Every stage of the process – silver soldering, engraving, polishing and final surface refinement – was executed with workshop precision. The construction of the box was built as a durable metal form, fully aligned with the sculptural intent and clarity of the object. Each detail reflects the discipline of traditional craftsmanship and the intention to create a collectible work.
The polar bear motif, rendered with restraint and clarity, evokes themes of strength, solitude and the northern landscape. As an object, it merges the qualities of sculpture and functional design, carrying the weight, presence and material gravity characteristic of the Kostylo Atelier.
