Figural Candelabra with Nike Victoria

Handicast brass figures with gold‑plated candle holders and striped flint bases

This pair of tall figural candelabra depicts Nike Victoria holding a vertical brass lighting structure. Each figure was cast in brass and finished with a hand-applied patina that introduces the tonal depth of aged bronze. The candle holders are plated with 23-carat Italian gold, creating a clear contrast between the matte patina and the reflective metal.

The figures stand on rectangular bases made from selected striped flint. The mineral’s layered structure introduces a geological counterpoint to the vertical form of the sculptures. Each stone was chosen for its scale, orientation and pattern, allowing the bases to function as integral architectural elements rather than supports.

The two figures mirror each other in posture: one rests on the right leg with the left leg raised, while the other adopts the opposite stance. Their height of 175 cm allows them to operate as full spatial presences within an interior, rather than decorative accents. Large figural candelabra of this scale are rarely produced in contemporary craft, placing the pair within a narrow category of monumental lighting objects.

The work was executed entirely in the Kostylo Atelier, where casting, finishing and assembly were carried out as a unified process. The intention was to treat the candelabra not as decorative pieces, but as sculptural studies in verticality, balance and the relationship between figure and architectural light.
