Pair of Figural Candelabra with Nike Victoria

Monumental brass figures with 23-carat gilded candle holders and striped flint bases

This pair of monumental figural candelabra was developed around two mirrored representations of Nike Victoria, each supporting a vertical brass lighting structure. Cast in brass and refined by hand, the figures were finished with a deep patina that gives the surfaces the tonal character of aged bronze.

The candle holders were finished with 23-carat Italian gold, creating a deliberate contrast between the dark patinated figures and the reflective gilded elements above them. Light, figure and metal were conceived as parts of one vertical composition rather than as separate decorative components.

Each sculpture stands on a rectangular base of selected striped flint. The natural banding of the stone introduces a geological structure beneath the figures and creates a counterpoint to the vertical movement of the brass forms. Each slab was selected for its scale, orientation and pattern so that the stone could function as an integral part of the composition rather than merely as a support.

The two figures mirror one another in stance. One rests on the right leg with the opposite leg raised, while the second reverses the gesture. This relationship creates a controlled rhythm between the pair and allows the sculptures to function either as independent objects or as a symmetrical architectural composition.

At 175 cm in height, the candelabra stand at nearly human scale. Their presence is therefore defined not only by ornament and material, but by their relationship to the surrounding architecture and to the viewer moving between them.

The work was developed through a continuous atelier process involving casting, chasing, surface refinement, patination, gilding and final assembly. The contrast between darkened brass, 23-carat gold and striped flint establishes the material language of the pair.

Today, the candelabra remain part of the Heritage Archive, documenting an important stage in the atelier’s exploration of monumental figural lighting, cast brass sculpture and the relationship between figure and architectural space.

The result is not simply a pair of figural candelabra. It is a monumental sculptural composition in which figure, stone, metal and light are brought together through symmetry, verticality and material contrast.
