Brass Corporate Plaque in Openwork Design
Hand-cast and hand-polished brass, single-atelier execution
This plaque was designed as an openwork brass composition presenting the Kołdras company logo. The piece was cast in solid brass and refined entirely by hand in the Kostylo Atelier. After casting, the surfaces were shaped, corrected and polished manually to achieve a high‑gloss reflective finish. The openwork structure was developed to maintain clarity of the logo while introducing depth and controlled negative space.
The perforated pattern is cut to emphasize the geometry of the lettering and the internal rhythm of the brand mark. Edges and transitions were refined through repeated cycles of filing and polishing, allowing the plaque to read as a unified architectural element rather than a decorative plate. The reflective brass surface interacts with surrounding light, creating shifting tonal contrasts that enhance the legibility of the form.
The work was executed from start to finish in a single workshop: modelling, casting, grinding and final polishing were carried out as one continuous process. The intention was to treat the plaque not only as a corporate identifier but as a sculptural study in material, precision and controlled transparency.
