Bespoke Presentation Cases – Kostylo Atelier

Individual Construction, Handcrafted Brass Fittings and Satin Interiors

The presentation of an artwork extends beyond the object itself. At Kostylo Atelier, individual cases are designed and constructed to accompany selected sculptural works and decorative objects, providing both protection and a considered setting for their presentation.

Each case is developed according to the dimensions, proportions and physical requirements of the work it contains. The relationship between the object and its enclosure determines the internal arrangement, available space and overall construction.

The wooden structure is assembled from precisely cut plywood components. Once joined, the surfaces and edges are refined by hand in preparation for priming and lacquering.

The positions of the hinges and clasps are established during construction, allowing the metal fittings to be integrated into the case rather than treated as additions to a finished enclosure.

The exterior is finished in the dark green associated with Kostylo Atelier. Successive stages of surface preparation and lacquering establish a consistent finish across the lid, sides and edges of the case.

The brass hinges and clasps are individually crafted and gilded. Their proportions, geometry and placement are considered in relation to the wooden structure, making the fittings part of the overall design.

Inside, white satin provides a contrasting surface against which the enclosed work can be presented. The lining is arranged to accommodate the individual object while separating its finished surfaces from the surrounding construction.

These presentation cases form part of the atelier’s approach to the completion of a work. Their construction, metal fittings and interior arrangement are developed with the same attention to proportion, material and execution as the objects they accompany.

The case is not conceived as a separate decorative product, but as a considered extension of the artwork’s presentation and preservation.
