Gold‑Plated Brass Letters with Wall Clock
A commissioned architectural composition in hand-finished brass and 23-carat gold
This commission was created for ASTORIA Premium Offices in Warsaw as an integrated composition of sculptural lettering and a wall clock. Each letter was cast in solid brass and refined entirely by hand in the Kostylo Atelier, with every surface shaped, levelled and polished through successive stages of manual finishing.
Before gilding, the brass received a copper underlayer to create a uniform surface and prepare the metal for its final finish. The letters were then gilded with 23-carat Italian gold, allowing their geometry to interact with the surrounding architecture through light, reflection and proportion.
The wall clock was conceived as part of the same visual language. Its hour indices were made in brass and gilded individually, while the mechanism was concealed within a dedicated housing. The hands were also shaped, finished and gilded by hand, allowing the clock to extend the rhythm of the lettering rather than function as a separate element.
The entire commission – from modelling, casting and surface preparation to gilding and final installation – was carried out by Kostylo Atelier. The result is an architectural identity in metal: a composition in which lettering, time and material are brought together within a single coherent form.
The result is not signage. It is an architectural identity shaped through metal, time and proportion.
