Arched Brass Chandelier (2012)

A monumental six-sided lantern, designed and handcrafted in the Kostylo Atelier

In 2012, commissioned for the entrance hall of a contemporary villa situated in a beautiful forest, this arched chandelier was created – one of the most intricate and demanding works to emerge from my atelier. Inspired by classical French arched lantern chandeliers yet conceived entirely from scratch, it stands as an original interpretation rather than a reproduction.

The structure is cast from solid brass, silver-soldered, hand‑chiseled and fitted with six milled glass panels. Every architectural line, ornamental detail and structural joint was shaped through traditional workshop techniques, without the use of prefabricated components. Four points of light form the internal composition, arranged on a classical, symmetrical framework.

The chandelier stands one meter tall, giving it a sculptural presence. Its patina – a noble, aged bronze tone – was applied and polished by hand, revealing the underlying brass along selected edges and profiles. The result is a luminous architectural object that brings ritual, material gravity and a sense of permanence into the space.

Looking back, I see this piece not only as a lighting fixture, but as a sculpture of light – a work that merges traditional metal craftsmanship with monumental form and a level of precision rarely executed today.

Entirely designed and handcrafted in the Kostylo Atelier.
