Gold‑Plated Brass Letters with Wall Clock
Hand-cast brass, copper underlayer, manual polishing and Italian gold plating
This project consists of a set of brass letters forming the ASTORIA Premium Offices logo, created for a high‑end office building in Warsaw. Each element was cast in brass and refined entirely by hand in the Kostylo Atelier. After casting, the surfaces were shaped with files, sanded through successive grits to achieve a perfectly smooth plane, and then polished manually to a high-gloss finish.
Before gilding, the brass received a copper underlayer to ensure a uniform and flat surface. The final stage involved applying 23-carat Italian gold, producing a reflective surface that emphasizes the geometry of the letters and their architectural presence. The logo was conceived not as signage but as a sculptural object integrated into the building’s interior.
The composition includes a wall clock designed specifically for this commission. The clock consists of gold‑plated hour indices made from brass and coated with 23-carat Italian gold. The mechanism is concealed inside a gold-plated housing, and the hands were crafted and gilded individually for this installation. The clock extends the typographic rhythm of the letters, allowing the entire composition to read as a single coherent form.
Installation of both the letters and the wall clock was also carried out by the Kostylo Atelier, ensuring that the entire process – from modelling and casting to final mounting – remained within one continuous workshop discipline. The result is a study in precision, surface control and the intersection of corporate identity with handcrafted metalwork.
